"Boule Jungle Bird"

A rare French Art Deco ceramic & enameled "Boule Jungle Bird" (Jungle Bird Vase) ceramic vase designed by, Maurice Paul Chevallier for Faïences de Longwy decorated in a crackle glaze of vibrant colors and gilt, with a frieze of exotic foliage, dragonflies and a jungle bird in various stages of flight. The vase is signed "M.P. Chevallier" and furhter marked "Of 50 Examples this is N. 2" This design is also known as "Boule Jungle Bird" and was featured at l'Exposition Coloniale de Paris en 1931.

Maurice Paul Chevalier was head designer for Emaux de Longwy and is responsible for the famous design "Boule Coloniale". One of the most successful designs and object created by Longwy to date. The production process used by Longwy is very intensive and costly. Many well known artists worked for Longwy during the many years since their founding. They were influenced by Japan, Persia, Egypt and Iznik. Their designs gained popularity during the Art Nouveau period through the Art Deco Period.
