The Vine

An American Art Nouveau cast patinated bronze sculpture "The Vine" by female sculptor, Harriet Whitney Frishmuth. The Vine depicts a nude dancer with outstretched arm with a grapevine growing off of her arm and holding a bunch of grapes. The dancers pose mimics that of how grapes grow off a vine. The sculpture is signed, "HARRIET W. FRISHMUTH" and further impressed "GORHAM CO FOUNDERS/QBWS"

Notes:
The Vine was one of Harriet Whitney Frishmuth most prolific sculptures which was modeled after Desha a famous Chezcloslovakian balerina in 1921. The vine was cast between 1921 and 1966 according to The Frishmuth Catalogue of Works (see above) lists 317 casts bearing the Gorham QBWS marking out of a total edition of 396 castings. The difference were cast by, Roman Bronze Work.

A life sized example is on permanent display at the Sculpture Court in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City
