An Italian Mid Century Modern Art Glass Sommerso Murano jewelry casket trinket box by, Mandruzzato. The box is cased in heavy clear glass with blue/yellow sommerso decoration fitted with gilded brass fittings. The box is signed. - circa 1960s
Measurements:
height: 3.25 in. x width: 5.25 in. x depth: 3.5 in.
Condition:
There are no chips, nicks or cracks to the glass. Hinge is strong and solid and brass rims have some minor plate wear loss. but not much. Some light scratches as expected from use and normal wear for an item this old.
Bio:
Mandruzzato was founded in 1934 on the island of Murano, Venice, Italy, by Benjamin Mandruzzato. After Benjamin died in 1954, the factory was run by his son Luigi Mandruzzato. In 1965 Luigi was joined by his son, Gianfranco Mandruzzato, who took over the running of the company two years later and then followed by, Gianfranco's son, Alessandro Mandruzzato who is currently operating the studio today.
