An Italian Mid Century Modern Art Glass Murano Sommerso decorated jewelry casket trinket box by, Mandruzzato. This unique box is faceted on. the lid and has boulbous body that is cased in heavy clear glass with smokey black sommerso decoration fitted with gilded brass fittings. The box is signed, Mandruzzato. Year: circa 1960s Measurements: height: 3.25 in. x length: 4.25 in. x depth: 4.25 in. Condition: There are no chips, nicks or cracks to the glass. Hinge is strong and solid and brass rims have Some light scratches as expected from use and normal wear for an item this old. Bio: Mandruzzato was founded in 1934 on the island of Murano, Venice, Italy, by Benjamin Mandruzzato. After Benjamin died in 1954, the factory was run by his son Luigi Mandruzzato. In 1965 Luigi was joined by his son, Gianfranco Mandruzzato, who took over the running of the company two years later and then followed by, Gianfranco's son, Alessandro Mandruzzato who is currently operating the studio today.
